NATURE WALKS BRING WORKING FAMILIES AND LOCAL BUSINESSES TOGETHER
Posted on: June 18, 2021
During half-term the Creating Futures team led 3 family nature walks for the parents, guardians and children involved in our Working Families project. The walks took place in Llandudno, Old Colwyn and Rhos-on-Sea, offering the families a choice of locations and settings – from the seaside to the top of Bryn Euryn!
The 3 walks presented an excellent opportunity to catch up with old friends, meet new people and chat informally about how the families can steer the project forward as it grows and evolves.
All of the families who attended the walks received a packed lunch and ice cream token from small businesses who are involved in the Creating Loyalty project, including Rachel’s Café, Gillian’s Kitchen, Vintage Kitchen, Rhos Fynach and the latest addition, Parisella’s Ice Cream Parlour. This was a great chance to support local businesses and raise awareness amongst the families of the amazing offers available to them through the Creating Loyalty app.
For more information on how you can get involved with our family activities in the future, please call us on 01492 588 980 or send an email to employmentacademy@creatingenterprise.org.uk
Eligibility criteria:
- At least 1 person in your household is working & you have at least 1 child

MINISTER FOR EMPLOYMENT, MIMS DAVIES MP, PRAISES ‘TRULY INNOVATIVE’ TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Posted on: June 14, 2021
On Thursday 10th June we were delighted to welcome Minister for Employment, Mims Davies MP, up from Westminster to our Academy in Mochdre to learn more about how Creating Enterprise are offering a unique range of training and employment opportunities.
Davies was keen to hear from Creating Enterprise’s Director of Partnerships, Sharon Jones, and Cartrefi Conwy’s Managing Director, Katie Clubb, about how all of Creating Enterprise’s commercial profits are reinvested into the organisation’s social purpose, which is to support tenants and local people to create better futures for themselves, their families and their communities. Of particular interest were our Employment Academy – which offers unemployed social housing tenants 12 months of paid work alongside a fantastic training and support package – and our involvement in the Government’s Kickstart scheme, which gives young people in receipt of Universal Credit 6 months of paid work experience in a variety of truly exciting roles.
Samantha Chadburn and Lynne Moore from Colwyn Bay Jobcentre Plus highlighted the excellent working relationship between the team at Creating Enterprise, DWP staff and local employers, which is breaking down barriers and ensuring that individuals have all the guidance and support they need, whether they are looking for their first job or returning to work following a period of unemployment.
The Minister was also given an opportunity to talk with Cartrefi Conwy tenant, Jared, who is currently working with our Painting team as an Employment Academy Assistant. Jared spoke about how “nerve-racking” it was to return to work after being a stay-at-home parent for 19 years, but how the fact that there is “always someone on the end of the phone to help” has given him the confidence to settle into his role and develop skills which have set him on an unexpected but exciting new career path.
Minister for Employment, Mims Davies MP, said:
“It was fantastic to meet the Creating Enterprise and Cartrefi Conwy teams to hear about the truly innovative training and work opportunities they are creating for local people, including via the Kickstart Scheme.
“From Colwyn Bay to Carmarthen, right across Wales our Plan for Jobs is boosting skills and job prospects as we push to build back better.”

Sports Packs Delivered To 54 Local Families
Posted on: April 6, 2021
Last week 54 local families who are involved in our Working Families project received packs filled to the brim with sports equipment in time to make the most of the improving weather over the Easter weekend. The packs – made possible by funding from The National Lottery Community Fund and StreetGames – contained everything the families will need to enter the project’s latest competition, which challenges them to use the items to create an obstacle course that gets the whole family involved. We have already received some excellent feedback about the packs, with one parent writing: ‘What a fantastic sports pack!!!’ We are very excited to see photos and videos of all the fun the families are guaranteed to have together.
