Extra Support During COVID-19Posted on: April 21, 2020
We are excited to share the news that as a result of additional funding from The National Lottery we are able to offer extra support to our community throughout the Coronavirus crisis.
Creating Enterprise have received a grant top-up from The National Lottery Community Fund which will pay for two additional Job Search Coordinators for a period of six months. Sharon Jones, Creating Enterprise’s Business & Partnership Director, says, “As a snapshot of what is happening in our community, Cartrefi Conwy Housing Association’s call centre has reported that 58% of the calls that came in last week were as a direct result of tenants having lost their jobs. We know that this will be the case across the whole of Conwy County”. For this reason, the new roles have been created to offer extra support, guidance and mentoring to any individual wanting to find work.
Therefore, if you have been affected by redundancy or unemployment during the COVID-19 situation, or if you’ve been inspired to make some positive changes, please be assured that we are here to help. Keep an eye on our social media pages for regular updates on the support that’s available to you, and feel free to contact us at any point.
Over the next six months, The National Lottery Community Fund are prioritising grant applications for community activity related to COVID-19. To find out more visit www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk/wales
Teresa’s Story – from volunteer to Cartrefi Conwy ColleaguePosted on: April 9, 2020
Teresa started thinking about getting back into work as she came close to completing her final year of university. She says that, having been out of work for four years, she felt a bit lost and didn’t know where to start.
Teresa had heard about Creating Futures from a fellow Cartrefi Conwy tenant who had started volunteering with us, and this inspired her to take on her own volunteer role across three Cartrefi Conwy Group departments. By gaining on-the-job experience, improving her confidence, and receiving one-to-one job search support, Teresa was successful in securing full-time, permanent employment as an Administration Assistant, a role which fits around her parenting commitments.
Looking back on how her life has changed over the past year, Teresa says, “When I think back to the first day I visited the Creating Futures Academy it amazes me how far I’ve come! My mindset has changed completely – I am in a routine and thinking more positively. I am happy, content, and have a better understanding of my own potential”.
Keep an eye on our social media pages for more stories like Teresa’s during the coming weeks.
